Tensions on the eastern border
In recent days, several hundred border violators have been detained on the Latvian-Belarusian border.
Mostly they are Iraqi citizens who want to enter Europe illegally.
In order to better protect the border, the Minister of the Interior of Latvia Marija Golubeva calls on the government to declare a state of emergency.
This would make it easier and faster for border guards to send border crossers back to Belarus.
Will decide on the emergency
The government will decide on the establishment of an emergency situation at the border tomorrow, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš promises.
Our neighbors, Lithuanians, have been fighting the problem of illegal border violators for a month now.
They have recently identified a similar special situation and are no longer accepting illegal migrants in their own country, but forcing them to return to Belarus.
Since Lithuania has done so, these people have more often tried to cross the Latvian-Polish border illegally.
In Europe, suspects Lukashenko
Many in Europe are convinced that the border violators are specially organized by the leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
He stole the presidential election in Belarus a year ago and declared himself president.
People protested and objected.
Lukashenko ordered these people to be imprisoned and beaten.
Many European countries, including Latvia, have condemned such actions and are no longer cooperating with the President of Belarus.
Today, Lukashenko announced that if European countries and America do not make friends with him, they are threatened by a crisis of illegal border violators.

41 new cases of Covid-19
Yesterday, 41 new cases of Covid-19 infection were detected in Latvia.
Of the more than 3,600 examinations, 1.1% were positive.
60 people are being treated in hospitals for diseases caused by the Covid-19 virus.
The fifth part has a severe course of the disease.
The incidence is rising in the Baltics
The number of infected people in our neighboring Lithuania and Estonia continues to grow rapidly.
In Lithuania yesterday 287 new cases, 3 patients died.
Almost 6,300 examinations were performed, of which 4.6% were positive.
There are 147 new cases in Estonia, no deaths.
More than 2,800 examinations were performed, of which 5.2% were positive.
Prices are rising in Latvia
The prices of goods and services are growing in Latvia. During the year, on average, everything has become 2.8% more expensive.
The price of various services and housing-related expenses is growing the fastest.
Also more expensive are medicines and medical services, as well as food and drink.
Respondents surveyed by Latvijas Radio say that they have not really noticed the price changes, because they do not look at them so often.
Older people, retirees who don’t have that much money, all as one said that food now costs more than a year ago.
Latvian Paralympians are on their way
The Latvian Paralympic team is going to the Paralympic Games.
Before a long journey, they were addressed today by President Egils Levits at the Presidential Palace.
At the Tokyo Paralympic Games, the Latvian team will be represented by seven athletes in seven disciplines, of whom Aigars Apinis and Ieva Melle will be the flag bearers at the opening ceremony.
For Monkey this will be the sixth Paralympic Games, but for Melle the first.
The Tokyo Paralympic Games will take place from August 24 to September 15.
