News in brief – Covid-19 also in ‘Mercedes’ team, Raikonen’s new contract, Hamilton is not the best

A spokesman for Formula 1’s leading Mercedes AMG F1 team became infected with the Covid-19 virus ahead of the Eiffel Grand Prix this weekend. The unit has not revealed details of who caught the virus with its representative, but it is clear that he (or she) will have to skip the stage. In total, almost 50 thousand tests were performed in the Formula 1 championship this season, 26 of which turned out to be positive, but the analysis of team representatives has been negative since the British GP, when a positive test was performed for Racing Point driver Serhio Peres.

Kimi Raikonen, who will become the most experienced F1 driver of all time this weekend, has revealed that he has not yet signed a contract for next year. At the same time, the Finnish driver emphasizes that he would not be here if he did not enjoy the race, although better results would certainly improve the situation. Raikonen admitted that he has not yet made a final decision and allows the opportunity to start in the F1 championship also in 2021.

This weekend, Luis Hamilton has a chance to repeat Michael Schumacher’s record of victories, but in the view of three-time champion Jackie Stewart, the best driver of all time is Juan Manuel Fanhio. Stewart points out that at that time the calendar was significantly shorter and riders do not participate in other championships. Stewart praised Hamilton for his decision to join the Mercedes team and stressed that Lewis was almost without mistakes, but the great merit of his triumph was in Mercedes dominance, while Fanhio’s teams changed almost every year and always knew how to make their car faster.
