A family member is charged with negligent car murder after an eight-year-old girl died after a collision in Gjerdrum on Wednesday. Police are looking for more witnesses.

The driver of the car was a close relative of the girl. The person in question was first charged with violating the Road Traffic Act, but the police have sharpened the charge.
– We have decided to change the charge to this provision here, as we believe that the accused has not been sufficiently careful as required in a parking lot where there may be children present, said police attorney Mette Eriksen in the Eastern police district to NRK earlier Thursday.
The collision occurred in connection with reversing just after 8 pm on Wednesday night. According to the police, the eight-year-old was dragged several meters under the car before it stopped. She died at Ullevål hospital on Thursday night.
– The accused were questioned on the spot, and further questioning will be done later. The interrogation was very short and we got little info. We know that it is the accused who drove the car, and that he did not understand how the girl had ended up under the car, Eriksen said at a press conference at 16 on Thursday.

Calling for more witnesses
– The police have carried out forensic investigations and have received assistance from the accident group in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. We have received a better overview than we had last night, but we are still at an early stage in the investigation, the police attorney said.
Several people on the spot helped to raise the car so that the girl could be pulled forward.
– The police want to get in touch with witnesses we have not spoken to. We ask that they call 64996677, said Eriksen.
The police do not suspect that the car driver was driving under the influence of drugs, but a blood sample has been routinely taken from him.
The rapporteur: – Are all affected?
The mayor of Gjerdrum says that the local community is strongly affected by the incident, which thus takes place just over six months after the landslide.
– It is a new tragic event with a family that needs care. We have a crisis team that is on standby, so we can quickly gather resources and expertise. It is naturally a demanding job, said mayor Anders Østensen (Labor) at the press conference.
– We are all affected by this, he added.
