At 4.46 pm on Sunday afternoon, Police, firefighters and ambulance have received a report of smoke in an apartment in Øyjorden in Ytre Sandviken.
Within nine minutes they were on the scene.
Police incident leader Casper Kaland told BA he saw soot and smoke in the flat when they arrived at the address.
– We were greeted by a closed door and had to go inside.
Lifesaving first aid was given
A woman was found in the apartment where there was a lot of smoke. She was quickly taken out by smoke divers.
– The person was unconscious, said Operations Director Eivind Hellesund in the Western Police District in BA at 1710.
Life-saving health care was provided and the woman in her 30s was transported to Haukeland.
In a Sunday evening press release, police say their lives were not saved.
– We have been informed by Haukeland University Hospital that the woman who was taken out of the apartment is sadly dead. The next of kin have been notified by the hospital, writes Hellesund in an e-mail.
Lots of heat
Response leader Kaland said at the scene that it had been very hot in the flat.
– It’s hard to say how long it has been burning, but there was a lot of heat and smoke.
Police do not know the cause of the fire, or where it started.
– It’s too early to tell, says Kaland.
The police have opened a case on the fire and will investigate the apartment. The fire did not spread to other residential units in the building.
