News, Elves | Man found dead during a search operation in Alver

On 9 September, a rescue operation was launched in Risasjøen, in the municipality of Alver. It was a boat without a driver was found while driving in circles.

The 64-year-old boatman had ended up in the sea and a large-scale operation was launched to find him.

On Sunday morning, a man was found dead by an underwater vehicle (ROV) in the area in question at Lake Risa. Relatives of the missing man notified.

Formal identification and an autopsy of the deceased will be carried out, police said.

The police: – Nice to have closure

Nordhordland Police Station Chief Kjell-Idar Vangberg says work in recent days has focused on so-called ROV searches carried out by a privately owned ship.

– This was the third time they went out. They searched the area where we thought it very likely it was, and it was also in this area that it was found, says Vangberg.

He is happy that a period of great uncertainty is drawing to a close.

– It is clear that this was a further effort in an otherwise sad and difficult time for relatives. That is why it is very good that we have now found it and that there is an end to the uncertainty that existed, says the head of the police station.

Large-scale research

In the initial phase, the rescue operations were carried out 24 hours a day. Eventually it moved on to a new phase, because the missing person was assumed to be dead.

In addition to a number of volunteer organizations and government agencies, there has been an influx of volunteers on the boats – who wanted to contribute to the research.
