News – Detroit Pistons get Troy Weaver from OKC Thunder as new general manager

The Detroit Pistons have hired Troy Weaver as the new general manager, the team announced on Thursday. Weaver was previously in the Oklahoma City Thunder front office and has built an excellent reputation over the years.

Like Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN reports that Weaver is said to have approved a four-year contract in Detroit. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of making this team a constant winner and buying the puzzle pieces to keep up at a very high level,” said the new Pistons GM in a statement.

The Pistons had been looking for a new man for the vacant position of GM in the past few weeks, who together with consultant Ed Stefanski should lead the team into the future. According to media reports, Weaver has prevailed against Clippers Assistant GM Mark Hughes and Nets Assistant GM Jeff Peterson, among others.

Weaver is now the ninth black general manager in the league. In OKC, he was the right-hand man of Thunder-GM Sam Presti and earned an excellent reputation within the league over twelve years with the franchise. He is said to have played a major role in the draft decisions for Russell Westbrook, James Harden or Serge Ibaka.
