The NHL still hopes to host pre-season games in China this fall as it did in 2017 and 2018, but it is closely monitoring the spread of the coronavirus that originated in this country, according to assistant commissioner Bill Daly.
The Grand League has not yet marked China as a destination in its 2020 preparatory calendar due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and it awaits more details before considering a possible trip.
Other topics discussed by Assistant Commissioner Daly on Tuesday include the possibility that the Capitals will play a regular season game in Russia. The Capitals present five Russian players: Captain Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, Ilya Samsonov and Ilya Kovalchuk and moreover, the team has expressed interest in playing games in Russia. Subject to logistics problems during the high season.
