News – Chicago buys Rockford IceHogs team

In a statement, the Chicago Blackhawks announce the purchase of Rockford IceHogs, an AHL team. The team will remain in Rockford, Ill. Until 2036 as part of a major multi-year USD 23 million Rockford Sports and Entertainment Center renovation project involving the City of Rockford, the State of Illinois and the Blackhawks.

Subject to AHL approval and finalization of legal documentation, the Blackhawks will pay USD 11.8 million towards the purchase of the franchise. The IceHogs were already partners of the Blackhawks since 2007. A training place, the AHL franchise has allowed 128 players to skate in the NHL, including 97 with the Blackhawks.

Hawks general manager Stan Bowman: “ We look forward to continuing to use the IceHogs as an extension of the Blackhawks to invigorate our squad with talent, to develop our young players and to create depth through our system.
