Under the magisterium of Prof. Maurice Aurélien SOSSO, Rector of the said academic institution, the University of Yaoundé I has finally (definitely) made its mark in the rankings of the best universities in Africa and the world.
Since 2014, this university managed with mastery by this Associate Professor of Surgery, continues to climb the markets of excellence.
One that tells us more is the “US NEWS & WORKD REPORT”, in its 2023 ranking, of the 100 best universities in Africa. According to this ranking made public by lesuniversités.com, the University of Yaoundé I occupies the 31st position on the continent, alongside the Mohammed V University of Rabat (Morocco). The ranking is however dominated by South Africa and Egypt. These two countries take the ranking of the top 10 best universities on the continent. Since 2014, and just two years after the appointment of Prof. Maurice Aurélien SOSSO as Rector of the University of Yaoundé I, “the mother of Cameroonian universities” has always occupied glorious positions in various rankings.
Ranking criteria
It must be said that the US NEWS & WORLD REPORT ranking of the world’s best universities takes into consideration criteria such as academic research performance and global and academic reputation. Out of a total of 1750 higher education institutions in the world, Africa placed 66 universities.
It is obvious that by taking the presidency of the University of Yaoundé I on June 29, 2012, by a decree of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul BIYA, Prof. Maurice Aurélien SOSSO has remained faithful and committed to his credo: to make the University of Yaoundé I a continental and global benchmark. And the fruits keep the promise of the flowers. The University of Yaoundé I, imperturbable, and amid the howls of wolves, continues its glorious and inexorable march towards the peaks of excellence, under the modern and wise governance of its Rector, Prof. Maurice Aurélien SOSSO, a monument to the mastery of academic habits and customs.
Some, more raw, would say that the dogs bark, the caravan passes.
