Me Fabien KENGNE, lawyer at the Cameroon Bar, was kidnapped at 9 p.m. (local time), this Monday, May 29, 2023, at the foot of the Equinoxe TV building in Douala.
The lawyer was returning home after the “Equinoxe Soir” program on Equinoxe television, a privately owned media outlet, when he was picked up by a squad of soldiers from the Littoral branch of Military Security (SEMIL). The kidnapping took place in the presence of his co-panelists including Yves ABAMA of the Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People (RDPC), as well as trade unionist ZAKARY. The lawyer first put up resistance to the SEMIL agents who arrived in two vehicles (Toyota Yaris and RAV4) and two motorcycles, before being brutalized and taken away by force. Less than ten minutes later, the kidnappers of the lawyer, a member of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), brought him back to the place of abduction.
