In search of two trophies |
This weekend the spotlight is on futsal, in which our male and female teams compete, in Sines, for the League Cup.
In the men, the opponent, in the quarter-finals, is Leões de Porto Salvo, with departure scheduled for today, at 21:00. If we win, we will face Modicus, who beat Viseu 2001, on Saturday, at 6:30 pm. The competition final will be held on Sunday. This is the sixth edition of the competition, with the last three being won by our Benfica.
In women, our team intends to continue the triumph achieved this season and thus win another trophy. The semi-final match will be played tomorrow, at 1:30 pm, with Santa Luzia, and the final will be held on Sunday against the winner of the encounter between Nun’Álvares and Quinta dos Lombos.
Our male volleyball team will also have a very important challenge on Saturday, at 7 pm, in Luz. After the brilliant performance against Sporting, eliminating the lions in just three games in the semi-finals of the National Championship play-off, our opponent in the final it is the Bastard Fountain.
This is a reissue of the 2011, 2014 and 2015 and 2016 finals, with two triumphs for each side. Throughout the season, balance between the teams has predominated. In the four meetings, we won two and lost two, all the results were 3-1. After the first game, there will be two in the Azores next weekend. If necessary, the fourth meeting will be in Luz and the fifth again in Terceira Island.
In basketball there will also be a decisive game. It will be with Oliveirense, in Oliveira de Azeméis, counting for the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup (Saturday, 6:30 pm).
There will be even more Benfica to see and support. In football, team B will play with Cova da Piedade (Sunday, 4 pm) and the female team will receive Clube Albergaria (Saturday at 3 pm). In handball (Saturday, 3 pm) we will host AA Avanca. In hockey we will have a trip to the HC Braga stronghold (Sunday, 3 pm). And finally, our hockey players will face CA Feira na Luz (Sunday, 6:00 pm) and our basketball players will have a double day: Saturday in Guimarães, against Vitória (15:00), and Sunday, in Aveiro, against Galitos (15:00).
Come on, Benfica!
PS: Despite the insistence of the newspaper “Record”, Sport Lisboa e Benfica reiterates that no negotiations are underway to hire Diego Costa. The focus of the professional football structure is solely aimed at winning the remaining 10 Championship matches and the final of the Portuguese Cup.
