News and current news from Holzminden and the Weserbergland: POL-HI: Fraud Whatsapp message

Hildesheim (ots) –

HILDESHEIM (bf). In recent weeks, there has been an increase in fraud via the WhatsApp messenger service in the area of responsibility of the Hildesheim Police Inspectorate.

For example, a 73-year-old woman from Alfeld was contacted by her supposed daughter on July 20, 2022. The contact used an unknown cell phone number. Under the pretext of wanting to order a computer, the victim was asked to pay 3,200 euros, which she did.

In this context, the police once again expressly warn against such contact being made by alleged relatives. If you are contacted by unknown mobile numbers, always be suspicious. Especially when it comes to supposedly new numbers of alleged relatives. Don’t be quick to accept requests for money. Contact your relatives on the numbers you know and make sure they actually contacted you on a new number. Otherwise fraud is to be assumed.
