The latest investigated case took place in January, when a woman responded to a fan page of the famous English singer Phil Collins.
Before long, the singer’s alleged manager contacted her from the site, saying that he was able to arrange a personal meeting with Collins directly in the Czech Republic.
“However, the condition was the payment of costs associated with travel, accommodation and organization. In this way, the fraudster lured almost half a million crowns out of the victim within a few weeks,” said police spokeswoman Iveta Kopecká.
Svitava police officers have been dealing with a similar case since November. A woman who responded to the fan page of the singer Jon Bon Jovi lost almost 600 thousand crowns.
In both cases, the police suspect unknown perpetrators of fraud, for which they face up to five years in prison.
