Today (Monday), the Minister of Health Fahd Al-Jalajel inaugurated the National Biobank at the Public Health Authority, in the presence of the members of the Board of Directors and some health leaders.
Al-Jalajel explained that the project aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the infrastructure of public health systems, as it will further improve national health security, monitoring and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
It will also effectively contribute to supporting the research, development and innovation agenda, in particular as regards the localization of biotechnology, whose applications include research related to antibiotic resistant bacteria.
For its part, the Public Health Authority “Prevention” has indicated that the bank will allow the authority to prepare programs and plans in the field of prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, increase early diagnosis and examination capacities, and set priorities for the localization of modern technologies for the development of drugs and vaccines.
He noted that it will build capabilities in the field of rapid detection and control of common and rare diseases, as well as population studies and the provision of samples and data in public health emergencies.
