News 24 | Professor Al-Dosari told News 24: Insurance companies don’t cover microsurgeons … and the cost of heart surgery is exaggerated

Cardiovascular surgeon Professor Ghannam bin Ayed Al-Dosari revealed that there is only one doctor who specializes in pediatric heart surgery in Sharqia, stressing that every hospital should have at least one doctor.

Al-Dosari explainedNews 24On the sidelines of the 77th meeting of the Doctors’ Diwaniya, which took place last night, Wednesday, there are many reasons behind the high incidence of stroke in the operating room in recent times, due to low blood pressure, and that there are narrow arteries leading to the brain which can cause some problems, also there are Patients who have heart problems such as atrial fibrillation, which leads to many problems.

He pointed out that the cost of various heart surgeries has increased exaggeratedly, as international prices are high because they are in dollars, indicating that the process of connecting arteries or valves in the Kingdom costs between 45 and 60 thousand riyals, noting that the the cost of replacing the valve without surgery is high, reaching up to 250 thousand riyals, because the price of the valve is high and the companies are tyrannical in this matter, and there is no insurance coverage for this type of surgery.

Al-Dosari warned against letting go of medical advice disseminated on social media that has no scientific basis, pointing out that the weakness of medical culture is one of the most important reasons for following this advice.

He added that those in their forties should have a thorough examination not just of the heart, explaining that most heart valve injuries in the Arab world are the result of neglecting the treatment of tonsils and rheumatism, noting that the diabetes is one of the most dangerous diseases that afflict humans and has a link to heart disease.

And he indicated that there are no accurate statistics or studies on the number of heart surgeries or the number of patients who need to change valves in the Kingdom, noting that there is currently difficulty in manufacturing artificial heart pumps in the Kingdom because the manufacturers are keen to manufacture them on their premises in the interest of quality, indicating that the Kingdom is working to develop heart batteries.
