News 24 | Erada Complex in Riyadh: Hyperactivity and distraction affect 5% of children

Today (Tuesday), the Irada and Mental Health Complex in Riyadh revealed that the percentage of children suffering from hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is between 3% and 5% at the global level.

The complex explained that this disorder consists of two parts, “hyperactivity” that ends with the end of the childhood period, and “distraction of attention” and may continue until adulthood.

The complex indicated that genetic factors are among the causes of this disorder, in addition to exposure to environmental toxins such as exposure to high levels of lead, mercury, or chlorpyrifos pesticides during pregnancy, low birth weight, smoking, drinking alcohol, or drug abuse during pregnancy.

For her part, Assistant Professor and Clinical Pharmacy Consultant at Irada Complex in Riyadh, Dr. Hadeel Bint Fakhri Daghash, stressed that a child can only be considered to have distraction when he is unable to perform his daily tasks at home and at school continuously.
