News 24 | Cholera in Lebanon .. 3 deaths and 12 new infections, and global health warns

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced today the registration of 12 new cases of cholera and 3 deaths in the past 24 hours.

For its part, the World Health Organization has warned of the danger of a new health crisis spreading in Lebanon, with cases of cholera rising within two weeks, and with the expectation that the number will increase after the publication of the results of the expected test laboratory.

The organization explained that the risks in the situation that Lebanon has reached derive from the serious economic crisis it has been going through for more than 3 years, which has reflected on various aspects of life, especially with the continuous power cuts, the worsening of the waste and sewage crisis, and the pollution of the rivers on which it depends, farmers to irrigate their crops.

The organization pointed out that 80% of Lebanon’s population faces multifaceted poverty, half of which live on the poverty line, according to recent UN estimates.

Interestingly, on Wednesday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced the death of the first case of cholera, noting that the number of infections had risen to 26, most of whom were displaced Syrians.
