News 24 | 3 serious medical conditions that cause you to wake up frequently at 3 in the morning

The American Sleep Foundation in the United States has alerted three serious medical conditions that can cause a person to repeatedly wake up at 3 in the morning.

The Foundation said sleep disturbances are often harmless, but waking up constantly at night can be a concern, as it can cause serious health consequences such as disability and death.

And he added, according to the British Express newspaper, that waking up in the middle of the night is medically called “night vigilance”, underlining that studies conducted in many European countries have shown that almost a third of people wake up three or more nights a week.

He pointed out that there are 3 medical conditions that can cause an individual to wake up frequently at three in the morning, which are cardiovascular disease, bronchial disease, and neurological disorders.

He noted that high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke are associated with poor sleep quality, including waking up during sleep, as these conditions hinder sleep quality due to poor blood circulation.

He added that there is another disorder associated with waking up at night, namely airway diseases such as sleep apnea, which is accompanied by waking up with a dry mouth and morning headache, as well as obstructive sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can disturb sleep at night.

He pointed out that neurological disorders are a third common cause of night-time awakenings and that people suffering from conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are more likely to wake up during the night and have trouble falling back asleep, adding that sleep disturbances may be an early indicator of cognitive decline, which can lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

He has noticed other health conditions causing waking up at 3 a.m., which are temporary stress, enlarged prostate, neuropathy, or gastrointestinal reflux disease.
