Jakarta –
For Astronomer confused by his own discovery. Because they discovered a new and unique galaxy which is currently named Nube.
This discovery was led by the Instito de Astrophysica de Canarias (IAC), in collaboration with the University of La Laguna (ULL) and several other institutions. It is known that Nube has different characteristics.
Reporting from Earth, Monday (5/2/2024), this galaxy is ten times fainter and wider than others with a comparable number of stars. However, its size is smaller than the Milky Way, and its mass is similar to that of the Small Magellanic Cloud.

Nube is said to have defied the general rules that apply to most galaxies. It has a higher density of stars in its inner regions.
“The density of stars varies very little across the object, which is why it is so faint, and we weren’t able to observe it well until we got ultra-deep images from the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC),” said Mireia Montes, an author on the study.
Well, these extreme characteristics are what make astronomers confused. Montes admitted that he did not know how the galaxy was created, considering its unusual characteristics.
The study of Nube has the potential to revolutionize people’s understanding of the universe. Ignacio Trujillo, second author on the study, speculated on Nube’s uniqueness.
According to him, the galaxy shows that dark matter particles have a very small mass. In this way, it can align the world of quantum physics with cosmic phenomena.
“If this hypothesis is confirmed, this would be one of nature’s most beautiful demonstrations, uniting the smallest world with the largest world,” concluded Trujillo.
Actually, this discovery happened by chance. At that time Trujillo was analyzing images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Here he saw an interesting faint spot, and it turned out to be a spreading object.
In short, discovery Nube Galaxy become a new chapter in the world astronomy. This is because its existence provides a great opportunity to increase knowledge about outer space.
