Newly appointed, the British Prime Minister infuriates Palestine!

Government English under the leadership of Prime Minister Liz Truss is conducting a review of the location of the British Embassy (Embassy) in Israel. As reported AFPFriday (23/9/2022), British Prime Minister (PM) Liz Trusson the sidelines of participation in the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York, United States (USA), told the Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid on “a review of the current location of the British embassy in Israel”.

According to Downing Street or the British Prime Minister’s office in a statement, the discussion on the location of the British embassy in Israel was led by Truss and Lapid when the two met on Wednesday (9/21) local time.

Such a move would follow former US President Donald Trump’s controversial policy of moving the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Trump’s policy even sparked deadly clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protesters in May 2018.

After meeting with Truss, Lapid thanked the British Prime Minister for considering such a move. But the strong reaction was given by the Palestinians.

“It is unfortunate that Prime Minister Liz Truss used her first appearance at the United Nations to commit a potential violation of international law by promising a ‘review’ of the location of the British embassy in Israel,” the Palestinian ambassador said in United Kingdom, Husam Zomlot said in response.

“Any move by the embassy would be a blatant violation of international law and Britain’s historical responsibility,” he said.
