With the Brazilian Joelinton’s goal, the Magpies won by the minimum against Southampton.

After a first half of many inconsequential touches, after half an hour of play came the first chance of the meeting for the visit. Good overflow from full-back Kieran Trippier for Joe Willock’s high shot. The locals were not far behind and responded with a powerful mid-range shot from Alcaraz that was easily saved by Nick Pope.
At the start of the second half it seemed that the Saints were taking advantage because they grew in the game and had two clear chances in a one-on-one by Che Adams and a cross shot by Kyle Walker-Peters. But the Magpies showed a lot of efficiency and in the first one they had in the second half they billed. Great individual start by Alexander Isak from the right sector who commanded the center and Joelinton appeared for the 1-0 lead and sealed the final victory. Southampton managed to equalize through Adam Armstrong but the goal was disallowed after VAR intervention.
The rematch will be next Tuesday at St James’ Park. Before, for the Premier League they will face Brentford and West Ham respectively.
