According to media reports, Alan Varela (21) is on FC Barcelona’s shortlist. Bayer Leverkusen and Inter are also in the running for the midfielder. Newcastle are now getting into poker.

According to information from D Sports Radio, the Magpies are offering €18m for the Argentina Under-20 international, who is under contract with Boca Juniors until 2026.
When he was renewed in August 2022, Varela secured a €20 million release clause. The 21-year-old is also on the shopping list at Benfica Lisbon, the Portuguese champions have targeted him as a successor to Enzo Fernandez (21), who is being courted across Europe.

According to D Sports Radio, Inter are also courting Varela. As reported by the Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona also became aware of Varela. He is exchanged together with Martin Zubimendi, Ruben Neves or Jorginho as heir to Sergio Busquets (34, contract expiring).
Varela already knows Barça’s DNA, having trained at the Blaugrana football school in Buenos Aires before moving on to Boca Juniors.
FC Barcelona have received convincing reports from their scouts in Argentina about Varela. According to Sport, the defensive midfielder is expected to make the leap to a top European club in the near future.
