Newcastle United beat success Chelsea 1-0 all the time Premier League this season. This victory solidified The Magpies’ position in the top three league tables.
Playing at St James’ Park, early morning Sunday (13/11/2022) WIB, Newcastle had minimal first round chances. Joseph Willock finally broke the deadlock with his spectacular goal in the 67th minute.
This achievement resulted in Newcastle picking up 30 points from 15 games, moving Tottenham to fourth place as they have won just 29 points. Meanwhile, Chelsea suffered a third consecutive league defeat and sit in eighth place with 21 points from 14 games.
The course of the match
Newcastle’s first chance came in the 16th minute. Miguel Almiron tried to fire a volley, but his accuracy was far from the target.
Chelsea just threatened in the 29th minute. Mason Mount’s partnership with Lewis Hall managed to create chances for Armando Broja, but the 21-year-old’s strike was easily anticipated by Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Joelinton had a chance to give Newcastle the lead at half-time, but his header from Kieran Trippier’s corner went wide to the right. The 0-0 ends the first half.
After few chances in the first half, Newcastle looked sharper in the second half. Chris Wood had an opportunity in front of the Chelsea goal in the 51st minute, but his shot was blocked by Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Crisis tried to take advantage of Bruno Guimaraes, but his shot was blocked by Mateo Kovacic. Newcastle regained control of the ball and Almiron sent in a mature pass which Sean Longstaff received in the penalty area, but his shot narrowly bounced off.
Chelsea didn’t want to be depressed and tried to give a counterattack. Conor Gallagher’s shot was successful towards goal, but Pope managed to save his goal from being conceded.
Newcastle finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute. With an attack from the right, Almiron moved from the wing, dribbling towards the centre, specifically in front of the Chelsea penalty area.
The ball headed for Joseph Willock who immediately fired hard into the right corner of the Chelsea goal. Mendy tried to dispel it, but failed. Newcastle won 1-0 and defended successfully until the end.
