Newcastle

Arsenal winning 1-0 over Newcastle United in the first round. The Gunners goal was born from a long distance kick Martin Odegaard.

Newcastle will host Arsenal at St James Park in Week 35 of the 2022/2023 Premier League, Sunday (7/5/2023) evening WIB. The hosts appeared pressing at the start of the game.

They almost took a quick lead in the 2nd minute. Jacob Murphy kicks off hard after controlling the cross ball well. However, the shot still hit the crossbar.

In the 7th minute, the referee pointed to the spot for Newcastle. This happened after Jakub Kiwior blocked Bruno Guimaraes’ shot with his hand.

This decision was later overturned by VAR. The reason is, the ball hit Kiwior’s thigh before hitting his hand.

Moments later it was Arsenal who actually took the lead. They could take the lead in the 14th minute.

Gol!!! Martin Odegaard fired a powerful horizontal shot from outside the penalty area. The ball is blocked by Nick Pope.

The game then went even more interesting after this goal. Arsenal had two successive chances.

Pope this time performed brilliantly. He was able to save Gabriel Martinelli’s shot and Odegaard who took advantage of a loose ball.

Pope is back in action. This time he was able to save Bukayo Saka’s shot from close range.

Newcastle tried to respond. Their combination of short passes can dismantle Arsenal’s defense.

Joe Willock is in an advantageous position in the penalty box. Aaron Ramsdale can save Willock’s shot.

Newcastle were dominant in launching attacks towards the end of the first half. Arsenal’s defense appeared disciplined to dampen The Magpies’ attacks.

Arsenal had stolen opportunities when Odegaard was left to face Pope. Pope was still swiftly holding back the London Cannon captain’s shot.

Score 1-0 to Arsenal closed the first half.
