The players of Newcastle United will not repeat the final participation in the English League Cup from last season. In Tuesday’s quarter-finals, they were eliminated after a shootout at FC Chelsea.

In regular time, the duel ended 1:1, the shootout 4:2 for the Londoners. The Slovakian national team goalkeeper caught the entire match in the Newcastle jersey Martin Dubravka.
The “Magpies” led almost the entire meeting when Callum Wilson scored in the 16th minute. Substitute Mychajlo Mudryk equalized at Stamford Bridge only in the second minute of added time of the second half. Extra time was not played and none of the four Chelsea players made a mistake from the penalty spot. For Newcastle, Kieran Trippier and Matt Ritchie did not get the ball in the net in the second series and in the fourth.
Fulham also advanced to the semi-finals, having won a shootout at Everton’s field (7:5), when the duel ended 1:1 in regular time. Middlesbrough is also among the top four of the competition after a 3-0 win at Port Vale.
