Newcastle United Dominates PSG in Champions League Match – 4-1 Victory at St. James’ Park

Newcastle United crazy on the second matchday of Group F of the Champions League. The Magpies pounded Paris Saint Germain with a score of 4-1.

Newcastle vs PSG takes place at St. James’ Park, Thursday (5/10/2023) early morning WIB. The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first half through Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn.

Eddie Howe’s troops then increased their lead to 3-0 early in the second half through Sean Longstaff. PSG reduced the score to 1-3 through Lucas Hernandez.

Newcastle added to PSG’s squeaking in injury time. Fabian Schar’s shot made the match finish 4-1.

Newcastle now leads the top of Group F with four points and PSG is second with three points. AC Milan is in third place with two points and Borussia Dortmund is at the bottom of the standings after collecting one point.

The Course of the Match

Newcastle looked full of enthusiasm. The Magpies were able to make things difficult for PSG in the first 10 minutes.

Newcastle finally took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute through Migue Almiron. The goal started from Marquinhos’ cross that hit the opponent’s head, the ball fell at the feet of Alexander Isak, who immediately fired. Gianluigi Donnarumma was able to parry, but Almiron grabbed the rebound.

PSG tried to put up a fight, but had difficulty getting a shot in the penalty box. In fact, there were two long-range attempts from Warren Zaire-Emery and Goncalo Ramos, but they were not on target.

Newcastle increased their lead to 2-0 in the 39th minute through Dan Burn’s header. The goal was reviewed by VAR because there were many incidents in the penalty box after the free kick, namely aerial duels and offside. The results of the review then confirmed the goal.

There wasn’t much impact from what PSG tried to do throughout the first half. Newcastle also led 2-0 until halftime.

Instead of getting a goal when the second half started, PSG conceded again. Newcastle increased their lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute through Sean Longstaff’s shot from a tight angle.

PSG managed to reduce the deficit to 1-3 in the 56th minute. Lucas Hernandez found the back of Nick Pope’s goal after heading in a cross from Zaire-Emery.

Ousmane Dembele failed to take advantage of the opportunity in the 69th minute. His shot from inside the penalty box went wide of Newcastle’s goal.

Newcastle added another goal in injury time. Fabian Schar’s long-range shot gave Newcastle a 4-1 win.
