Manchester City did not survive their first round in the Carabao Cup. Isak scored the verdict for the Citizens with a tap-in after half-time. Jeremy Doku came off the bench at the end, but the Red Devil was also unable to erase the deficit.
It was a serious test for both teams in their first cup round and yet both teams kicked off with many new names. City seemed to be least bothered by this because the visitors were dominant before the break.
But Manchester City did not benefit from the field dominance, as Julian Alvarez missed two big chances in the opener.
And such a lack of efficiency is simply punished at this level. Newcastle came out of the dressing room rejuvenated and looked for the goal with new energy. And that soon came. Isak followed a Joelinton attack well and easily scored the 1-0.
Euphoria among the home fans, but for the striker the joy did not last long. He had to leave after an hour with an injury.
Pep Guardiola tried to counter and brought in Jeremy Doku, among others, but that came too late.
This action by Doku yielded just nothing
