Jakarta –
No Sandro Tonali appears as one of the illegal gambling players. If proven, Newcastle United could sue AC Milan.
Tonali was sold by Milan to Newcastle United this summer. This sale was said to be very surprising, especially since the Rossoneri were unable to refuse the offer of 80 million euros.
The 23 year old midfielder immediately became a core player. Tonali’s role in Eddie Howe’s game scheme is difficult to replace so far.
The current situation is changing. Tonali was accused of being involved in gambling on illegal sites while still wearing an AC Milan costume. In fact, footballers are strictly prohibited from being involved in betting.
Newcastle could have terminated Tonali’s contract sooner. The Magpies could even sue AC Milan and Tonali if they are proven not to have provided actual facts during the transfer process.
“Newcastle can immediately suspend a player if he keeps illegal behavior a secret from them. Currently he is being sanctioned, this will be detrimental to the club, so there is the possibility of terminating his contract and demanding compensation,” said sports lawyer, Pierfilippo Capello, as quoted by Football Italy.
“As for Milan, Newcastle will have to prove that Tonali was a gamble when he was their player, they know and have kept quiet about it. However, knowing Italian clubs and the way they operate, that is highly unlikely to happen.”
