Newcastle could try to acquire three players who all play regularly at Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge side are on a tear in the transfer market. It looks like Todd Boehly brings any name that pops up on the rumor mill.
However, Newcastle could try him to recoup some of Chelsea’s expenses with three players. According to the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards, Newcastle are interested in Hakim Ziyech, Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. However, the club are reluctant to see Gallagher and Loftus-Cheek leave due to growing injury problems at the club.
However, certain parameters require Chelsea to get rid of certain talents.
Chelsea must sever ties with two non-homegrown talents ahead of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash with Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea cannot register Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Benoit Badiashile without removing a player from the Champions League squad. No club may register more than 17 non-national players. Registering the three players would take that total to 18 in the Champions League squad.
Both Loftus-Cheek and Gallagher are homegrown players, so keeping them would be handy. Still, Hakim Ziyech fits the description of a player who could leave. Moreover, Ziyech is a striker and Mudryk is a natural replacement for his position.
Newcastle are eyeing three Chelsea players
As for what Newcastle want, Edwards clarified that Newcastle would be more interested in a central midfielder. For example, a Conor Gallagher or Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Another player on Newcastle’s mind for potential players in the middle of the park is Manchester United’s Scott McTominay.
Newcastle certainly have some cash to spend. The Saudi Investment Fund takeover has already led to Newcastle’s most expensive signing. Alexander Isak joined Real Sociedad in the same window as Sven Botman came from Lille. These two players cost Newcastle more than $100 million. However, there is more capacity to spend.
Additionally, Newcastle would be pushing for players in the January window to build on what has been a huge one-season success as we reach the halfway point. Currently, the Magpies sit third in the table, level on points with fourth-placed Manchester United.
