“This is by no means a question of our customers, but rather an act of support for our team. We want our employees to feel safe when they come to work,” said Kire Gannifin, general manager of security for the Countdown network.

According to her, knives and scissors are removed from the shelves until a decision is made whether to sell them in the future.

As a reminder, on September 3, a 32-year-old Sri Lankan citizen walked into Countdown supermarket at New Lynn Mall in Auckland. took a knife from the counter and attacked on people. Six people were injured, three of them are in critical condition. The attacker was shot dead by the police.

The authorities called the attack a terrorist attack. According to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, the attacker came to the attention of the police back in 2016 because of his support for the ideology of the Islamic State. He spent three years in prison.
