Other entities entering the commonwealth such as the London Metropolitan Police and the Scottish Police have also offered hijabs to their uniforms.
In England, Metropolitan London approved it in 2006, then the Scottish Police began implementing it 10 years later.
In their statement of New Zealand unity, they began to think seriously at the end of 2018 when responding to members who visited SMP.
Officer Ali later became the volunteer to try it out in uniform, where he was part of the development process.
To New Zealand Herald quoted BBC Wednesday (11/18/2020), Ali is a Fiji-born law enforcer who moved to “Kiwi Country” as a child.
He revealed that he decided to go to the police because of the Christchurch shooting tragedy that killed 51 people on March 15, 2019.
At that time, an Australian terrorist named Brenton Tarrant opened fire on the congregation who was about to perform Friday prayers.
After the shooting that shocked the world, Ali said he realized Muslim women had to join the police to help residents.
“It feels great to be able to show the police hijab as my uniform, and I think more and more Muslim women are intending to join after seeing this,” she said.
