New Zealand hit by worst heatwave since 1909

GENEVA – New Zealand’s scientific research agency recorded the hottest average temperature recorded in June after global warming.

On average, the country recorded a temperature of 10.6 Celsius, an increase of 1.9 degrees Celsius, the Institute of Water and Marine Research (NIWA) said. READ ALSO – Unstoppable Delta Variant, WHO Asks 80 Countries to Be Alert until Augusts

A NIWA scientist, Chris Brandolino said, since 1909, New Zealand has recorded temperatures 13 times warmer than the original temperature.

“What’s more worrying is that in the last 10 years, it has happened six times,” he told a local radio station.

Brandolino said climate change was still a factor in rising temperatures and warmer ocean temperatures were helping New Zealand’s air to get warmer.

Last year, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Aedern announced the situation weather emergency by saying urgent action needs to be taken to address the issue for the benefit of future generations in the country
