These are the newly graduated recruits of the police training, who have been trained by the Youth Affairs department of the Police Corps of Suriname to become new youth detectives. To further improve both the quantity and the quality of the services of the Youth Affairs department, young, enthusiastic recruits have been recruited, the KPS reports.
According to the Surinamese police, the selection of this group took place after a screening. This group was chosen because these young police officers can play a very important role in youth policy. They are trained and guided with the expected result that they become good guards of youth policy.
The training started with orientation on the work field, with visits to various children’s homes. The theoretical part consisted of a basic training, in which interrogation techniques were discussed in general and in sex matters.
Subsequently, the skills and insights of investigations (mainly in sex offenses) and files were taught.
In addition to the training, various presentations were held by actors who are inextricably linked to Youth Affairs because of the promotion of the best interests of the child, both in criminal and social areas.
The practical part of the training is completed by simulating practical situations, whereby a test of the theoretical knowledge takes place at the same time. The first phase of this training is concluded by means of a certificate presentation.
The young juvenile detectives will further specialize under supervision reports the KPS.
