New York’s history in numbers

New York is the world city. From its nickname the “big apple”, it whets the appetite of the whole planet. 40% of its inhabitants were born outside the USA. They are 8,175,000, as many as the Swiss. Among them, 33% white, 25% African-Americans, 28% Hispanic and 12% Asians, who speak 170 different languages. New York City never sleeps with its 1,355 kilometers of 24-hour subway tracks, three international airports or 13,000 yellow taxis.

In Manhattan skyscrapers bloom every year. It takes 90,000 euros / m² to live 400 meters high, as high as the Empire State Building.
These dreams of grandeur fascinate tourists. They were 56 million last year, a record. Everyone wants to see the Statue of Liberty, and the 39 theaters of Brodway, the musical capital. But there is still Central Park which represents 500 football fields. You can rest there in the shade of its 250,000 trees, unless you are disturbed by the arrival of the 50,000 participants of the New York marathon, the most popular in the world.
