New York State’s COVID-19 positivity rate has remained below 1% for 31 consecutive days, the governor proudly announced.
Sunday’s COVID-19 test results were 0.88% positive and stayed below 1% for an entire month – a major victory for a state that was once the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States.
New York State reported 520 new cases of the virus on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections to 440,021 and the total number of hospitalizations to 413.
Two deaths were also recorded on Sunday, bringing the death toll in the state to 25,361.
Governor Andrew Cuomo praised New Yorkers for keeping the infection rate low and slowly stabilizing the state.
“Thanks to the hard work of New Yorkers, our state has now spent a full month with our COVID infection rate remaining below 1%,” he said in a press release Monday.

“Thanks to the hard work of New Yorkers, our state has now spent a full month with our COVID infection rate remaining below 1%,” Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday, urging New Yorkers to “stay smart” the rest of the Labor Day weekend.

“Our numbers have remained stable even as we reach new milestones in our gradual, data-driven reopening,” he added.
He urged New Yorkers to “stay smart” at the end of Labor Day weekend “so we can continue to celebrate progress.”
“It took the work of all of us to get here, and to protect this progress, we will all need to continue washing our hands, wearing our masks, staying socially distant and most importantly, staying in New York,” he said. Cuomo said.
The State Liquor Authority and the State Police Task Force continued to crack down on restaurants and bars, visiting 1,064 establishments in New York and Long Island on Saturday, where they discovered that seven companies did not comply with the requirements of the State.
Today, restaurateurs fear their businesses could sink into a pandemic if they cannot open fully or without a relief program.

A shocking new report claims 63.6% of all restaurants in the state could close permanently by the end of the year without a full relief program.
Only 36.4% of restaurants said they would likely stay open.
Of the 63.6% who said they could close in 2020, 54.8% said they would close before November, the restaurant association found.
The New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA) surveyed 1,042 restaurateurs across the state during the last week of August and found the restaurant industry was in dire need of federal financial assistance, according to Fox5 .
“It is painfully clear that without financial assistance, New York State’s restaurant industry could collapse. These recent survey results illustrate just how dire the financial situation has become for most restaurants and show how critical it is for elected officials to understand the urgency of the situation, ”said Melissa Fleischut, President and CEO of the association in a press release.
The NYSRA says commercial rent relief, paid business interruption insurance claims, and the possibility or increase of indoor meals are solutions to help businesses stay on their feet.

New York is in phase four of reopening, allowing zoos, botanical gardens, museums and gymnasiums to reopen.

Restaurants outside of New York City are allowed to eat inside, but at a 50 percent capacity. Gatherings of more than 50 people are however prohibited.
