New Yorkers march against the massacres in the country

The twenty-one crosses with the names of each of the children and their teachers, all murdered in an elementary school in Texas, was a scene that shook the audience.

The sculpture of a child hiding under a desk is shocking but at the same time It provides a powerful message, said the organizers of the March for Our Lives.

And during the event they placed a rose at the foot of various photographs with which they also honored the name of each of the victims of the massacre in Buffalo.

For Mónica Aquino, one of the participants, this event meant: “It’s sadness. These kids, these babies are just starting life and their parents have to say goodbye and bury them. This should never happen in this country, we are smarter than that.” and we need someone to listen to us and help us; otherwise, it will become tremendously crazy”.

For her part, Sonia Vélez, one of the organizers, pointed out in this regard: “I know that it is important for everyone. But as a mother, it touches my heart to see other mothers suffering when they lose their children and it is time that We stop the violence.”

Minors took a leading role in the protest.

The slogans on the banners were clear: ‘My life is more valuable than your gun’, ‘Protect children, not weapons’ and ‘No more silence, stop the violence’. For the participants “the fight is not over” and it precisely consists of raising their voices, marching and protesting so that the armed violence stops, so that there are no more massacres, so that there are stricter laws for those who acquire pistols or assault rifles …

Wanda Torres, works as a teacher and commented: “18-year-olds, so much so that the law doesn’t let them buy liquor, but they let them buy these weapons that kill people. Many children have already died, first 10 years ago from Sandy Hook and now, again, in Texas and also in Florida and many places. Enough is enough.”

The Mayor of the city also walked along the Brooklyn Bridge with thousands, they were joined by the Governor of the state and the attorney general, Letticia James.

Activists hope that protests like these will finally raise awareness among federal lawmakers so that stricter laws can stop the massacres.
