The New York Yankees were left on the field on a walk Friday in Baltimore. It’s the second time that’s happened in the last 15 MLB seasons.
And Aroldis Chapman has been on the mound both times. The other time was in 2017 against the Boston Red Sox.
“The fastball command wasn’t strong tonight, a little bit out of the zone,” Chapman told SNY on Thursday, when he also struggled against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Cuban is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career in 2021 and enters the final year of his contract with the Yankees.
The Yankees went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position Friday against Baltimore. He has an average of .180 in that situation in eight games (61-11) of this Major League campaign and it is a problem that has dragged on since last year.
“We will be fine. We have to do better and put together better shifts tomorrow,” Boone told the MLB portal. “I think we’re better overall than we were last year and that’s going to show.”

Veteran DJ LeMahieu is one of several team members who see fit for Aaron Judge to retire as part of the Yankees, the team he leads.
“When you think of the New York Yankees, you probably think of Aaron Judge,” LeMahieu told the NY Post. “He just has a presence like no other, around the game. He has that presence that not a lot of people have.”
