New York Yankees get reliever Addison Russ from Philadelphia Phillies for David Hale

The injury-ridden New York Yankees acquired reliever Addison Russ from the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.

Russ, 25, right-hander, has been dominant in his minor league career, posting a 2.48 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 152⅔ innings.

Veteran right-hander David Hale, who was put on assignment by the Yankees earlier in the week, returns to the Phillies in the trade.

Russ will be heading to the alternate New York training site and could provide help in the Yankees bullpen in the face of the injuries of Tommy Kahnle and Zack Britton.

In his past two seasons with the Yankees, Hale was 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA in 43⅔ innings with a 1.44 WHIP.
