Aaron Judge isn’t just preparing for his first season as Yankees captain; he also in favor of receiving the keys to the city of New York. It is that the mayor of “The Big City” Eric Adams, reported on his Twitter account (@NYCMayor) that the last MVP of the American League will receive the aforementioned tribute as a symbol of civic recognition and gratitude, reserved for people who do common and public good.
In this way, Aaron Judge will be the first player to be honored with the keys to the city of New York since 2017 when the former starter for both the Mets and the Yankees themselves, Dwight Gooden, was honored. Likewise, the latest version of the Yankees winner of the World Series in 2009, also received the distinguished recognition; similar case to the 1969 Mets, honored in 2019.
Last December, the Yankees named Judge the 16th captain in organization history, while also announcing a new contract deal with the slugger, courtesy of nine years and $360 million. If all goes well, Aaron Judge has a very good chance of playing for the New York Yankees for his entire MLB career.
