The New York Yankees made important moves this MLB offseason, but at least for now they missed one of their goals.
The Bronx team still isn’t sure who will be the starting left fielder in the next major league season, and it doesn’t seem like they’re still probing the market for a piece.
However, day after day there are candidates to solve the Yankees’ problem and the last name to be mentioned is Robbie Grossman, one of the outfielders still available in free agency.
The 33-year-old and 10-year-old in the majors, Grossman is a switch-hitter (although he’s a natural left-hander) who can cover all three outfield positions, but it’s left-handed where he’s spent most of his time.
In 2022 he shared time between the Detroit Tigers and the Atlanta Braves and his offensive numbers weren’t the best: his .209/.310/.311 line was the lowest since 2015. He hit 7 home runs, 19 doubles and drove in 45 careers.
Grossman’s estimated market value is $14 million over two seasons, a price the Yankees don’t seem inclined to pay. Not a star, the outfielder has above-average defense and could be the outfielder they need in the Bronx, as long as he agrees to a one-year deal.
If the Yankees agreed to Robbie Grossman, their 2023 lineup would look like this:
DJ LeMahieu, 2B
Aaron Judge, RF Anthony Rizzo, 1B
Giancarlo Stanton, BD
Josh Donaldson, 3B
Harrison Bader, CF
Robbie Grossman, LF
Oswald Peraza, SS
Jose Trevino, C.
