New York would be the least Christmas-loving city in the country – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK — The New York City is considered a magical place to experience Christmas because it has many of the most recognizable Christmas shows in the world, from The famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree even the incredibles light shows in Dyker Heights and even a huge SantaCon event this past weekend.

But apparently, that’s not enough for New Yorkers to really feel the spirit of the season, according to a recent report.

The FinanceBuzz money website analyzed 50 of the largest cities in the United States and rated them on nearly two dozen metrics for assessing holiday spirit. And New York City qualified as the city”Grinchiest“or who doesn’t like Christmas from the United States.

The city has the lowest rate of Christmas decoration stores (0.6), Christmas tree lots (0.3), gift shops (9.9), and food banks (0.1) per 100,000 residents , according to FinanceBuzz. Additionally, less than a quarter of all New Yorkers (23.3%) said they volunteer each year, the fourth lowest number in the country.

Perhaps New Yorkers’ hearts are too small.

Los Angeles was ranked as the second city with the most Grinch from the United States, followed by San Antonio, Chicago and Memphis.

At least the five boroughs fared better than other cities when it came to giving. Miami residents have been found to volunteer the least of any major city, even donating the least to charity.

Meanwhile, another city not too far away apparently captures the Christmas spirit much better. Hartford, Connecticut, scored the highest for holiday cheer, with nearly 75 percent, FinanceBuzz said. The Connecticut capital has more than 1,920 festivals and holiday events per 100,000 residents, the most of any city in the United States, as well as the highest rate of homeless shelters (35.1) and food banks (17.1).

Hartford and Providence, Rhode Island ranked first or second among major cities for skating rinks, Christmas tree lots, gift shops and Christmas markets. Minneapolis, Orlando and Pittsburgh rounded out the least Grinchy cities.
