Cow to tell a story about a city without having experienced it in its flesh? At 72, Philippe Delerm has never set foot in the Big Apple, which remains foreign to him. Not that he hadn’t dreamed of landing there, like Jack Kerouac, by bus from Connecticut, or by air. The opportunity nevertheless presented itself several times, never materialized, without which the Normand would not have delivered the pages of this New York sans New York, pure novelist’s challenge, far from any journalistic temptation.
