New York will have its own LGBTQ + museum by 2024

In the presence of former professional tennis player and activist Billie Jean King, the foundation stone for a new LGBTQ + museum was laid in New York. For the museum that tells the stories of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, trans people, queer people and others who feel they belong (LGBTQ + for short, note), should tell, the New York Historical Society will be expanded to include an extension that is due to open in 2024.

The Historical Society, founded at the beginning of the 19th century, has dedicated itself above all to the history of the metropolis of New York. “We are so glad that the museum has found a home,” said 77-year-old King on Tuesday (local time). “It is our time, for our American LGBTQ + community, to tell our stories.”

Visitors from all over the world expected

The whole world will pay attention to the museum, said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio: “People from all corners of the world will come and learn that change is possible and that it happened here in New York.”
