Numerous people took the chance to visit the renowned museum in southwest Manhattan on Thursday. Tickets now have to be booked online in advance, and fewer people are allowed into the exhibition rooms at the same time – and hygiene, distance and mask rules apply.
Since last week, museums in New York, almost all of which have closed since March, have officially been allowed to reopen under strict conditions – but only gradually. Before the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum had reopened their doors. The Guggenheim Museum plans to follow suit on October 3rd. The Corona crisis has been hitting the city’s cultural industry, which was one of the global epicentres of the epidemic in spring, hard for months.
