New York, Dec. 26. The New York State Attorney General’s Office on Monday warned pharmacies about skyrocketing prices for children’s painkillers and fever reducers, demand for which has skyrocketed across the country due to the “triple epidemic” , the combination of an increase in cases of covid-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus.
“The Attorney General’s Office is aware of reports of children’s drugs being sold online and in stores at two to three times their retail value,” an official statement read.
Authorities have asked citizens to notify the office if they perceive an excessive increase in products such as “Tylenol, Motrin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen and aspirin”.
“This year’s tripledemic disease keeps many sick children and infants at home, and families trying to care for them face national shortages of children’s Tylenol and other drugs,” said New York Attorney Letitia James, quoted in the note.
The Prosecutor recalls that New York law prohibits merchants from taking unfair advantage of consumers by selling them goods or services vital to their health, safety or well-being at excessive prices and also requires consumers not to stockpile medicines.
“The attorney’s office advises consumers to buy only the children’s medicines they need and not to stock up unnecessarily, as panic buying can intensify shortages and encourage sellers to price-fixing,” the statement said. . EFE extension
