When Allen Weisselberg started at the Trump Group, Fred Trump, the Patriarch, was still running the business. In 1973 the Trumps were looking for an accountant, he got the job and became indispensable. Under Fred’s son, he rose to become the company’s chief financial officer. Not only the location of his office in Trump Tower in Manhattan made it clear that he was Donald Trump’s right-hand man. “In the Trump organization neither a cent goes in nor a cent goes out that does not go over Weisselberg’s desk,” says Michael Cohen, Trump’s ex-lawyer, about the 73-year-old’s role.
