A request that goes wrong. This Thursday, September 16, three people were arrested in New York after assaulting a restaurant waitress. She had just asked them for proof of vaccination.
The case took place at the entrance of an Italian restaurant. The waitress in question was required by law to ask for this proof of vaccination before she could install the customers. Since September 13, New York has indeed become the first large American city to request these documents at the entrance of restaurants, but also sports halls or concert halls.
The suspects arrested by the police are three women, originally from Texas and aged 21, 44 and 49 years. The altercation, filmed by a passerby, shows that the 24-year-old waitress has been beaten repeatedly. Her collar was broken in the fight, but she refused to see a doctor according to ABC News. An investigation has been opened.
Recurrent violence
“It is shocking and tragic that one of our employees is attacked for doing her job and trying to make a living. We will focus on his well-being and the rest of our restaurant family, ”said the spokesperson for the establishment in question. “We call on the city and state of New York to immediately increase the penalties for assaults on restaurant workers,” said NYC Hospitality Alliance, which defends the rights of employees in the restaurant industry.
