New York: Vaccination or tests for “public transport” employees

After the medical staff and the city employees, from the beginning of September all employees of the transport companies in New York must either present a vaccination certificate or have themselves regularly tested.

This applies to the approximately 68,000 employees of the local transport authority MTA, which is responsible for subways and buses, among other things, as well as to the employees of the Port Authority, which operates the airports, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today.

Similar regulations for the urban staff of the metropolis, including police officers, teaching staff and medical staff, had previously been announced. Mayor Bill de Blasio also announced that in future only people who have already been vaccinated will be recruited by the city.

In addition, he recommended all people, including those who had already been vaccinated, to use masks again in public indoor spaces in view of the rampant Delta variant – but did not officially order this.
