New York: Vaccination or Tests for City Personnel

After the medical staff in New York, from mid-September, all city employees must either provide proof of vaccination or have themselves tested weekly. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced this today. The regulation that comes into force at the beginning of school includes around 340,000 municipal employees, including police officers and teaching staff.

“September is the key point of recovery,” said de Blasio at a press conference. “And that’s why every municipal employee is expected on the first day of school on September 13th to either be vaccinated or to have a weekly test.”

Previously, de Blasio had already introduced a similar regulation for medical staff. The US east coast metropolis wants to use it to combat the rapidly spreading delta variant of the corona virus. It is now dominant in the USA. Recently, it also caused increasing numbers of infections in New York, especially among those who were not vaccinated.
