A virtual UN climate summit is being held from New York today.
Several heads of state and government take part. Chancellor Merkel is also involved. The federal states should present their progress on climate protection and their further plans. The originally planned climate conference was postponed to November 2021 due to the corona pandemic.
The video switching takes place five years after the Paris Agreement on Climate Change was signed. According to experts, the commitments made since then are not sufficient for the goals they have set themselves – namely, limiting global warming to well below two degrees Celsius. The states should therefore adopt more stringent measures by the end of the year. Yesterday the European Union committed itself to reducing its CO2 emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. To date, the EU has had a value of minus 40 percent
